Langdurige video- en EEG-registraties verbeteren de diagnose en monitoring van epilepsie. De toenemende vraag maakt analyse hiervan tijdsintensief, terwijl het aantal beschikbare KNF-laboranten en KNF-neurologen afneemt. Automatische detectiesoftware kan helpen, maar wordt weinig toegepast door technische en praktische obstakels. Validatie-onderzoek toont aan dat automatische detectiesoftware, zoals Persyst, goed interictale afwijkingen detecteert, maar minder sensitief is bij het detecteren van aanvallen. Een gecombineerde methode met gedeeltelijke visuele beoordeling en automatische detectie blijkt echter even betrouwbaar als volledige visuele analyse en bespaart tijd.
